If you've ever been to EPCOT, you've seen this gorgeous plant growing in the domed display of the future. Malabar spinach isn't a true spinach but it actually thrives in high temperatures. In our yard, six plants have grown to cover a 15-foot trellis so heavily that we've had to reinforce it -- in spite of the fact that we're eating it at least three times a week. Small leaves taste very much like spinach with a very mild flavor, the larger leaves are tougher and should be cooked before eating. Malabar spinach is a good source of vitamins A and C, calcium and iron. Temporarily out of stock, but check back in the spring. Due to changes in government regulations, we can no longer ship living plants overseas, or to Hawaii or Puerto Rico. |
